The Nordic countries do not share the same Christmas tradition when it comes to gift-bearers: these figures are quite directly derived from pagan folklore creatures, not always on the same side, by the way. The Finnish Joulupukki was originally more of a tormentor, wandering near homes at the solstice, who could only be appeased with gifts. The Danish Julenisse is, on the other hand, a benevolent gnome rewarded with... a plate of porridge.
