Amsterdam/New York: Santa Claus is the Child of Global Cities (part 2)
It is interesting to note that the direct ancestor of the 20th-century Santa Claus was already the offspring of the leading economic power of the time; however, this power would be short-lived, as the English and Louis XIV would clip the wings of the great mill builders. A sign of this relative decline was the loss of New Amsterdam, founded on the banks of the Hudson, to the English, who renamed it New York. However, it was too late, the "Sinterklaas virus" had already landed.
